Reddit User Reveals The Time Keanu Reeves Did Something Sweet For His Grandmother
A Reddit user shares his sweet story of his grandmother and Keanu Reeves, further proving why the actor is dubbed the "nicest guy in Hollywood."
Keanu Reeves might be one of the most loved actors of all time! A viral story of The Matrix star has resurfaced on social media, sparking discussions on Reeves and his kind heart. A user, @PerspectiveMedical71, asked Redditors on the website: "What’s something a famous person has done that just completely changed how you viewed them?"
Another account, @afdc92, responded in the comment section and shared the time Reeves made his grandmother's year. "My grandmother had a crush on Keanu Reeves because he reminded her of my grandfather when he was young. Saw all his stuff, from Bill and Ted to the Matrix," he wrote. Unfortunately, his grandmother had a stroke and became housebound shortly after. She found her solace in movies.
"She had a stroke in her early 70s and was pretty much housebound for the last 10 years of her life, so watching movies was her main hobby, and became almost like friends to her because she so rarely got to see any of her own," he continued. According to the user, his uncle was in LA for work and was dining at a restaurant one day when Reeves himself walked in. "Not too long after the Matrix came out my uncle was in LA for business and was eating at a really swanky restaurant when Keanu came in with a woman."
"When he finished his meal my uncle came up to their table and said 'I don’t usually do this, but I just wanted you to know that my 80-year-old mother loves you and has seen all of your movies. You remind her of my dad.'" Reeves responded in the nicest way possible by telling the man's uncle to call his grandmother. "He said Keanu asked if he had a cell phone on him and when he confirmed that he did, he said 'Give her a call, I want to talk to her,'" he shared. "He spoke with my grandmother for several minutes and it absolutely made her year. She was so isolated and his genuine kindness to her and interest in her showed what a truly amazing man he is."
Reeves' kindness isn't just limited to his fans – two years ago, the 58-year-old made headlines after he gifted his stuntmen new Rolex's (all valued at $10,000 each) to celebrate the wrapping of John Wick 4. Each recipient even had their name engraved on the watches.
His stuntmen in the 1999's The Matrix Reloaded inspired the actor after they persisted through some of the toughest scenes. In the scene where Neo takes on numerous Agent Smiths, it was revealed that his stuntmen were slammed to the ground 20 or more times. "I've got maybe in some of those sequences 30 moves, 25 moves," said Reeves. "And every time I said I'd like to do it again, [the stunt men] were like, 'Yeah, man, let's go.'" The actor was so impressed that he bought each of them (and there were 12 in total) a new Harley-Davidson motorcycle.
"We were all in this thing, and we were training together beforehand," Reeves added. "I just wanted ... to give a bigger thank-you to all these guys who helped me make this, I think, one of the great movie fights in the history of cinema."
