A resurfaced article has fueled outrage over the sexual exploitation of Brooke Shields when she was a child star.

The article, which was recently uploaded to X (formerly Twitter), referred to Shields as a "sultry mix of an American virgin and nascent whore" when she was just 12 years old. The media constantly dehumanized Shields and sexualized her, and this is one of the many examples of the disturbing mistreatment she endured.

One user on X, @dvorstone, captured the public's shock and dismay. "This was immediately after the 'sexual revolution' and should have been a clear sign that the culture had gone off the rails and needed a reset," they wrote. "I don't think this country has, or even will, come to terms with the sexual corruption of the boomers. From the swinging to divorce to homosexuality, drag/transvestites, and pedophilia, they mainstreamed virtually every sexual degeneracy that has metastasized everywhere in our culture. Brooke Shields was exploited... publicly and privately, in a way that is so creepy that it's hard to even believe it really happened, but it did." Another user called the treatment "unforgivable."

Shields, now 59, has been vocal about her experiences, including her infamous appearance in Playboy at age 10 and her role when she was a minor in The Blue Lagoon, a film that featured her and her co-star in numerous nude scenes. Shields recently reflected on her career during an episode of her podcast Now What?, admitting that "Never again will a movie be made like that... it wouldn’t be allowed." The plot included explicit scenes involving sex and masturbation.

In recalling the filming of The Blue Lagoon, Shields shared shocking details of the measures taken on set, such as taping her long hair to her chest and using flesh-colored patches to cover her nipples. “They would stick these little flesh-colored things to my nipple because nipple is where they drew the line, evidently,” she revealed. Additionally, Shields and her co-star were directed to tan nude before filming to avoid visible tan lines.

The resurfacing of this article and the release of the Quiet on Set docuseries prove that there is an ongoing need for awareness and protection for young actors in Hollywood. Many former child stars have since come forward to share their negative experiences, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding future generations from similar exploitation and abuse. As these voices grow louder, it is clear that the mistreatment of young talent in the industry can no longer be ignored.
