In 2019, Madonna and Quavo performed their song "Future" at the Eurovision Song Contest. X (formerly Twitter) users were stunned to see the resurfaced video featuring dancers with Israeli and Palestinian flags on their backs.

The strange performance begins with "Like a Prayer," and we see a group of individuals in robes. Madonna enters the stage and removes her hood to show off an eye patch marked with an "X."

Around the five-minute mark, the song switches to "Future," and men in religious garb are shown in the background. She grabs a dancer in a white dress wearing a gas mask and says, "They are so naive. They think we are not aware of their crimes. We know, but we're just not ready to act. The storm isn't in the air. It's inside of us." Umm, what?

Madonna blows air at her dancers, and they fall to the ground. Madonna sings as they wriggle around like worms. The lyrics go, "Not everyone can come into the future; not everyone that's here is gonna last." She also sings about peace and says, "Open your eyes." Interesting.

The song is upbeat, but the ambiance looks scary to me. Around the 8-minute mark, the backdrop turns into a city under fire and filled with smoke. "We can light up the dark; everyone has a spark," Madonna sings.

As she and Quavo walk up the stairs, individuals with Israeli and Palestinian flags (and gas masks) on their backs join in as they walk side-by-side. They separate toward the end, and the last imagery we're given is a pyramid. The song ends with Madonna whispering, "Wake up."

Let's see what people have to say about this. @mysticinthemoon on X writes, "Apocalyptic gas masks, twin pillars, resurrection imagery and the burning of the statue of Liberty were were also featured. Totally normal stuff."

Others believe the singer was calling for peace. "Looking back, this performance by my muse @Madonna was extremely controversial back then. She spoke about israel-palestine cinflict and was calling for peace. Her theme was also about a pandemic and war. A few months later, boom! Covid-19, then Ukraine-Russia then Israel War," adds @Hidekister.

"This is SO creepy," tweets @YungKundalini.

This week, Madonna lamented the death of children. She called the war “heartbreaking."

"Nobody wants to see what’s happening," she said. "I turn on social media, and I want to vomit. I see children being kidnapped, pulled off motorcycles, babies being decapitated, children at peace raves being shot and killed. What the f*ck is going on in the world? How can human beings be so cruel to one another? It’s just getting worse. It frightens me.”
