Sarah Hyland may not have gotten buccal fat removal. In many of her new pictures and videos on Instagram, the 32-year-old still appears to have the same round cheeks she's always had.

In the images where her face looks sharper, Sarah seems to be doing a trick models use to make their lips look plumper and their cheeks more defined. The popular hack used by the most photogenic individuals is essentially this: You suck in your cheeks until you softly bite them with your molars, which pushes your lips out while giving you a contoured appearance.

Sarah's Cheeks Used To Be Fuller Because of Her Medicine

There's actually a reason why Sarah's cheeks were much fuller back then. On Modern Family season 8, viewers of the show noticed that Sarah's face appeared more swollen than usual, leading many to believe she had some work done. The actress later revealed that the change in her appearance was actually due to health complications. 

The Geek Charming star finally addressed the negative comments she was receiving on her swollen cheeks, which she attributed to her medication, stating, "I don't mind when you say that I look pregnant. Or fat. Because I know that my face is swollen from my medication that is saving my life," she wrote. "For those on Prednisone I know what you're going through and I commend you sticking it out as I have. My self confidence is not rendered from your comments."

Sarah Battled with a Condition That Made Her Lose Weight

Sarah’s cheeks may appear slimmer today due to her weight loss. In 2018, Sarah revealed that she had been battling kidney dysplasia, a condition where the kidney does not fully develop in the womb. She was already on her second kidney transplant around that time period, since her body began rejecting the first one her father donated back in 2012. The second one was given by her brother, Ian, which took a toll on her mental health. "For a long time, I was contemplating suicide, because I didn't want to fail my little brother like I failed my dad," she revealed. "I had gone through [my whole life] of always being a burden, of always having to be looked after, having to be cared for."

In 2021, Sarah took to Twitter to share how her dramatic weight loss resulted from the health complications that left her bedridden. "I've basically been on bed rest for the past few months, I've lost a lot of muscle mass," she explained. "I write this because I've been accused of promoting anorexia in, ironically enough, an anti-bullying post. And I want young girls to know that that's NOT my intention."

Sarah Addresses Plastic Surgery Rumors in 2017 

In 2017, Life and Style Magazine wrote an article on Sarah Hyland's transformation over the years, somewhat insinuating that she may have gotten plastic surgery. Sarah addressed the publication on Twitter in November of that year. "I have had the worst medical year of my life and to create an entire article surrounding the question of if I've had plastic surgery is the MOST insulting thing," she tweeted. "Adding insult to injury. You have NO IDEA what I have been through. And I have somewhat addressed these rumors already. People like you are the reason why young girls feel the need to alter their face. MY face has been altered by LIFE SAVING medication. Take your 'journalism.'"
