This weekend, Cosmopolitan announced that "Swifties for Kamala" is mobilizing fans for the upcoming election, regardless of whether Taylor Swift will endorse anyone. The Instagram account dedicated to the movement (@swifties4kamala) has garnered 44,000 followers.

However, the comments section on Cosmo's post reveals a different narrative: There are plenty of Swifties who support Trump. "Sorry SWIFTIES ARE FOR TRUMP," wrote a woman named Cynthia.

Another one said, "Noooo. Sit this one out. We're #swiftiesfortrump."

Meanwhile, Donald Trump tweeted photos of women wearing "Swifties for Trump" t-shirts, proudly captioning his post, "I accept!"  Mainstream media chose to focus on how the former president utilized AI-generated images, completely ignoring the fact that many Swift fans do support Trump.

Swift may appear liberal, but her fanbase and connections suggest a more right-wing undercurrent.

Is Taylor Swift Trump-Coded?

Even liberals think that Taylor Swift is a closet Trumpie. I'm not claiming she is one, of course, but we can’t ignore her connections to right-wing individuals or those who seem to lean in that direction. While Swift seems to be keeping a low profile on the political front this year, avoiding endorsements and staying silent on major issues, her father, Scott Swift, is a known Republican.

In her documentary Taylor Swift: Miss Americana, the then 30-year-old superstar is seen clashing with her dad and team over a lengthy social media post showing her support for Democrats. To this day, Swift appears close to her dad.

Swift and the Kennedys

Remember when Swift dated Conor Kennedy, the eldest child of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Mary Kennedy?

The “Fortnight” singer’s photos with RFK recently resurfaced on X/Twitter just after he publicly endorsed Trump.

In February 2012, Swift confessed to Vogue that Ethel Kennedy was one of the few people who left her genuinely starstruck. Swift, who was 22 at the time, couldn’t stop gushing about the afternoon she spent with Ethel (now 96), recalling how the legendary Kennedy matriarch and her husband, Bobby, always seemed to be the life of the party. With 11 kids and a property full of exotic animals, the Kennedys embodied the glamorous – and very unique – American family.

Just one year before that, Swift revealed that she’d read a 900-page book called The Kennedy Women, which traced the family's roots back to the first Kennedy woman who immigrated from Ireland in the 1800s. The red, white, and blue craze didn’t stop there – Swift also picked up books about John Adams, Lincoln’s Cabinet, the Founding Fathers, and Ellis Island. It’s clear to me that Swift has a huge fascination with American figures who helped shape the nation. We can’t deny her connection with our country’s legacy, much like her admiration for the Kennedys.

Travis Kelce

Swift's NFL star boyfriend, Travis Kelce, is also giving off right-wing vibes. During a February 2023 episode of his podcast New Heights, which he co-hosts with his brother Jason, Travis joked about needing to “start breeding” to have children. The remark came up in a lighthearted discussion with his mother, Donna, where he playfully referred to finding a “breeder” to start a family. That sounds right-wing to me! I don’t think liberal-identifying men would ever jokingly refer to women as “breeders.”

Travis also liked an Instagram post featuring ESPN anchor Sage Steele alongside Trump. I think it’s safe to assume that he’d just ignore the photo if he were voting Democrat. Travis’s most recent comments and social media activity further fuel perceptions of his right-leaning tendencies, suggesting he’d have no problem visiting the White House with his Kansas City Chiefs teammates if Trump were re-elected in November.

Matty Healy

Swift briefly dated Matty Healy from The 1975, who’s been linked to the "Dirtbag Left" movement, a group that often critiques the "woke left" and embraces a provocative, satirical approach to politics. In February 2023, Healy made waves by appearing on The Adam Friedland Show, a comedy program associated with the Dirtbag Left.

Brittany Mahomes

Swift's seems to keep her friendship with Brittany Mahomes (wife of Patrick Mahomes) intact despite her recent controversies. On August 23, Brittany liked an Instagram post that showcased Trump’s 2024 platform, which includes policies like combating inflation, protecting free speech, and banning males from competing in women’s sports. Brittany ignited a storm of backlash from liberals, who accused her of being "privileged" and "misogynistic."

In response, Brittany took to social media to defend her stance, suggesting that criticism from online mobs reflects deeper personal issues rather than substantive disagreements.

Again, Swift's connection with Brittany Mahomes raises questions about how her personal relationships may reflect her hidden conservative values.

Swift’s Fanbase

Are we really surprised that some women are proudly posting the #SwiftiesForTrump hashtag? When you think about it, Swift’s persona blends traditional femininity with modern charm, striking a balance that appeals to right-leaning women. Many Swifties wear their signature sparkles, girly outfits, and iconic cowboy boots to her concerts, conjuring up a classic, Americana image that contrasts the more provocative styles of some of her peers (looking at you, Katy Perry).

While some celebrities flaunt revealing attire or make bold, politically charged statements, Swift’s style remains elegant and very demure. This not only sets her apart from more overtly liberal figures but also attracts a segment of her audience that might feel alienated by the more radical aspects of modern pop culture. It’s no surprise, then, that Swift’s traditional and feminine imagery resonates with conservative women, attracting a segment of her fanbase to align with right-wing sentiments, as evidenced by the trending #SwiftiesForTrump.

Why the Focus on Taylor Swift?

Swift is currently in the spotlight more than ever, thanks to her widely successful The Eras Tour and a recent "Time Person of the Year" feature. Her high-profile relationship with Travis Kelce only amplified the buzz in 2024 following the Kansas City Chiefs' Superbowl win.

Swift’s influence is undeniable. The singer's foray into politics – from endorsing Democratic candidates to rallying 35,000 fans to register to vote in 2023 – has made her a lightning rod for both praise and criticism. Given her millions of fans who adhere to her every word, it makes sense why both parties are using Swift as a weapon. She has the power to sway the election.

Closing Thoughts

Taylor Swift might give off liberal vibes, but make no mistake – she's a capitalist through and through. Her entire brand is about selling, whether it's concert tickets, albums, limited-edition merch, or the seemingly endless digital versions of TTPD. Every album drop and tour announcement is perfectly timed to keep the cash flowing. Swift’s fans aren’t just supporters, they’re customers, and she knows exactly how to keep them coming back for more. Yes, she's incredibly gifted, talented, and beautiful, but in an industry where artistry often battles with commerce, Swift has mastered the art of making both work in her favor.
