The 11 Ugliest Dresses At The 2022 Oscars

The Oscars were last night! And, unfortunately, these dresses made our list for some of the worst we saw on the red carpet this year.

Nicole Kidman

As much as we adore Nicole Kidman, this dress wasn’t doing her any favors. The strange shape distracts us from her. You should always see the woman first, not the dress.

Jada Pinkett Smith

After Will Smith slapped Chris Rock for joking about Jada, we doubt anyone is going to be talking about this dress…maybe that’s a good thing for Jada because this dress was awful. If the designer's intent was a dress inspired by kale, then mission accomplished.

Billie Eilish

This shapeless, gothic dress is part of Billie Eilish’s standard look, we get it. But that doesn’t mean it wasn’t one of the worst dresses of the night. In our opinion, the Oscars just aren’t the place for the moody teen meets grandma’s curtains look.

Maggie Gyllenhaal

Maggie Gyllenhaal definitely made a statement (are those gold coat hooks?), we're just not a fan.

Jessie Buckley

Jessie Buckley’s dress was far too light in color for her skin tone, and the lack of color in her makeup look wasn’t helping. Everything is just bland.

Tracee Ellis Ross

As beautiful as Tracee Ellis Ross is, this dress just wasn’t the best choice. The bodice design is unflattering and distracts you from looking at her as a whole.

Jamie Lee Curtis

We're not sure what the vision was for this look Jamie Lee Curtis wore. The fishnet layer over the dress and extending down onto her hands is bad enough, but combined with her turtleneck you can’t really see much of her at all. Don’t get us wrong, tasteful gowns are gorgeous – just not this one.

Renate Reinsve

We're not sure we understand what’s happening on Renate Reinsve’s Louis Vuitton gown (something vintage inspired?), but it looks awful, which is really disappointing considering what a stunning woman she is.

Halle Bailey

This dress looks like it belongs at the beach or the pool as a coverup for a bikini. But for the Academy Awards? Yikes.

Maya Rudolph

Shapeless, orange, and feathers sounds like the opening line of a bad joke, not the description of a red carpet Oscars gown. This Valentino look proves that designer does not always mean stylish.

H.E.R.

This just looks like an expensive neon green bedsheet strategically tied up. And as much as we love the shoes, none of the accessories play well together.

Closing Thoughts

The Academy Awards are always full of gorgeous gowns…and some that are less than gorgeous, to say the least.
