Just two months after an assassination attempt on Donald Trump during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, the Secret Service and local law enforcement stopped a gunman in West Palm Beach, Florida.

After the attack in Butler, journalists and public figures downplayed the violence, with some suggesting it was "staged" despite video evidence, witness testimony, and the death of Corey Comperatore. Others mocked Trump and the victims and called for more violence.

In the aftermath of the latest political attack, these same figures are continuing to push hateful rhetoric against Trump and his supporters. Here are 14 of the most insane takes on the attempted assassination so far.

"He Brought It on Himself"

One of the most evil responses has been the implication that Trump’s policies or rhetoric somehow justify an assassination attempt.

Several people have framed the attack as a "consequence," suggesting he deserved it. This kind of dangerous logic not only undermines the gravity of political violence but also sets a chilling precedent for excusing violence based on disagreement.

And rather than even address the actual gunman, The Washington Post used its coverage to paint Trump as the villain.

One person named @SwannMarcus89 on X wrote, "Rightoids will be extremely mad at me for saying this, but Trump keeps getting shot at because his own rhetoric creates a violent atmosphere, not because the Dems are doing anything to place his safety at risk If he toned things down, he'd be less likely to get shot at."

Brandon Walsh mocked his reasoning, writing: "Feminists will be extremely mad at me for saying this, but women keep getting raped because their own fashion choices create a rapey atmosphere, not because the rapists are doing anything to place their safety at risk."

This is all especially disturbing and deceptive given the well-documented violent rhetoric used by the Democratic Party towards Trump and his supporters.

The Media's Reluctance To Cover It at All

Equally disturbing is the near silence from some major media outlets. While they quickly latch onto stories that align with their political agenda, many news organizations either buried or downplayed the assassination attempt.

Some "sources" tried to suggest there was no threat to Trump's life. This lack of urgency and accuracy in covering an attack on a former president raises serious questions about journalistic integrity.

The wife of far-left Virginia candidate Alexander Vindman encouraged her followers to "carry on" with their Sunday afternoons.

And many outlets, including the FBI, refused to call it an "attack," or attempted assassination, instead using the term "episode."

Needless to say, many Americans are not confident that government agencies will handle the investigation with the urgency and transparency needed to rebuild public trust and political stability.

The Conspiracy Theorists

There were also bizarre conspiracy theories suggesting the assassination attempt was staged by Trump himself. This theory gained traction among Harris supporters claiming it was a ploy to gain sympathy or political leverage.

In a now-deleted post, The Palmer Report wrote, "Now they've changed the story from shots fired in the vicinity of Trump, to two people shooting at each other with Trump randomly nearby, to the shooter was supposedly targeting Trump. I don't care anymore. I'm tired of hearing about this convicted felon and his problems."

Attempts To Distort Reality

Rather than addressing the gravity of yet another assassination attempt likely driven by media narratives, some outlets used the incident as an opportunity to criticize Trump and his supporters. They pivoted quickly, sharing debunked January 6th narratives and conspiracies rather than covering the breaking news.

This "whataboutism" shows a blatant attempt to deflect from the violence being stoked by Democrat politicians and journalists. In another particularly disgusting move, Kamala Harris's campaign chose to leave up deceptively edited videos that could further endanger Trump and his team.

Similarly, TIME Magazine, already known for its startingly bad takes, chose to leave up this cover, showing a gross insensitivity to both Trump and his family.

Even worse, TIME also falsely claimed that the would-be assassin, Ryan Wesley Routh, had "unclear" political motivations despite documented evidence that he hates Trump, supports Kamala Harris, and frequently repeated lines from her campaign and various liberal media outlets.

Closing Thoughts

The media's role in shaping public opinion during moments of political violence is crucial. How they respond, or fail to respond, to assassination attempts sets the tone for national discourse. Whether it's conspiratorial nonsense or rationalizing left-wing violence, the responses to the latest attack on Trump show just how deep media bias runs, and it doesn't bode well for the democracy they claim to be protecting.
