The 3 Real Reasons Biden Wants To Ban TikTok That The Media Isn’t Telling You

What's the real reason why the U.S. government is trying to ban TikTok?

By now, you're probably aware that Congress is pushing legislation to require China's ByteDance to sell TikTok or face a ban on the popular app from U.S. app stores.

The move is driven by concerns over national security risks associated with the Chinese government's access to user data. The FBI has warned about the possibility of the foreign government influencing American viewers through the app and raised concerns about their data possibly being exploited.

TikTok has assured Congress of their "security measures," but Congress remains unconvinced, with the TikTok bill passing on Wednesday, even though former President Donald Trump opposed the legislation last Thursday.

Meanwhile, Americans are convinced there are other reasons why the government is trying to ban the video-sharing app.

The Government Can't Control the Content

Understandably, the U.S. cannot filter or censor certain videos on the Chinese-based platform. U.S. Senator for Kentucky Rand Paul believes that the TikTok ban is a “draconian measure” that stifles expression and rights. “The passage of the House TikTok ban is not just a misguided overreach; it's a draconian measure that stifles free expression, tramples constitutional rights, and disrupts the economic pursuits of millions of Americans," he said.

"With an iron fist, Congress dictated an unrealistic and narrow path for divestment, effectively banning TikTok and ignoring its substantial investments in data security. This act is not securing our nation – it's a disturbing gift of unprecedented authority to President Biden and the Surveillance State that threatens the very core of American digital innovation and free expression,” he said.

TikTok Has “Based” Content

A lot of the videos you see on TikTok would never make it on other social media platforms like Meta or mainstream news sites. I’ve seen countless videos from “conspiracy theories” like Kate Middleton missing to the corporations controlling the media. You’d think that the app would be stricter, considering how their community guidelines won’t even allow certain words or substances to be shown in videos. Yet, when it comes to freedom of speech, TikTok doesn’t stifle opinions, especially when it’s against Biden, the government, Big Pharma, etc. You could see why, then, the government would be so keen on banning the app just prior to the presidential election.

“The reason that the White House is talking about banning or breaking up TikTok is because TikTok is A-extremely BASED, right coded content goes viral on Tiktok constantly, lots of stuff that would be banned outright on Meta,” writes fitness trainer Alexander Cortes on X (formerly Twitter).

He continues, “B-the political content is anti-Joe Biden and widely Pro-Trump.”

Indeed, you can find thousands upon thousands of videos of TikTok users making fun of Biden’s incoherent and mumbled speeches and how his presidency has led us to inflation and war. Even the comment section is full of conservative people garnering thousands of likes for their views.

The Ban Would Start the Patriot Act 2.0

The official documents show that the “foreign adversary controlled application” they’re trying to ban could be a website, a desktop or mobile application, or augmented and immersive technology applications operated by an offshore company. This means that the bill won’t exclusively ban TikTok but potentially other useful applications not based in the U.S.

U.S. Representative Thomas Massie adds how the term “covered company” in the bill excludes companies operating apps and websites whose purpose is to allow users to post product, travel information, and business reviews. “If you think this isn’t a Trojan horse and will only apply to TikTok and foreign-adversary social media companies, then contemplate why someone thought it was important to get a very specific exclusion for their internet based business written into the bill,” Massie says.

The bill would allow the government to ban other platforms that they cannot control, which violates freedom of speech.

TikTok has been sending push alerts to urge users over 18 to call lawmakers to "stop a TikTok ban."
