Why People Believe The Menendez Brothers' Case Is Connected To P. Diddy
Social media users believe Jose Menendez worked with Clive Davis, P. Diddy's mentor. Here's what we know.
TikToker @jocelynalicebaby recently went viral for her shocking revelation about Sean "Diddy" Combs and the Menendez brothers. Garnering over 8 million views on her video, she said, “Put the finger down if you had no idea that Menendez's brothers' case was directly linked to Diddy because their dad used to work for Clive.” She puts one of her fingers down at the end of the video.
“Who was Diddy's f*cking mentor?” she asked her audience. “Does their sentencing make more sense to you now?” It seems that she's suggesting the sentencing was to protect the criminals who were allegedly connected with the Menendez brothers' father, Jose.
About the Menendez Brothers
The Menendez brothers, Erik and Lyle, became household names in the early '90s after the murdering their wealthy parents. While some viewers believe that they did it for money, their televised trial told a different story. The brothers revealed their history of abuse at the hands of their parents, dating back to when they were just 6 years old.
As you’re already aware, Sean "Diddy" Combs was recently arrested and indicted on serious charges, including conspiracy, sex trafficking, and racketeering. U.S. Attorney Damian Williams characterized Diddy as running a criminal enterprise, using drugs and violence to control women during what he called "Freak-Offs." The allegations against him have drawn parallels to the darker sides of fame and power that the Menendez brothers experienced. He's also facing allegations of raping a 13-year-old.
Clive Davis and P. Diddy’s Relationship
Clive Davis was the head of Arista Records, a label he founded in the 1970s. He signed and mentored numerous artists, including Whitney Houston, Barry Manilow, and P. Diddy. A 2022 article by RockTheBells discussed an episode of the Rock & Roll High School Podcast featuring Davis and host and Atlantic Records President Pete Ganbarg. Davis opened up about mentoring Diddy at the start of his career.
“Puffy was 23 years old, and I knew the artists that I had – Aretha, Dionne, Whitney – was one kind of music,” he told Ganbarg. “LaFace ushered in blue-collared R&B at its height. But, sensing the Hip-Hop revolution, both LA [Reid] and I agreed that we could use someone really attuned to the street. You gotta know what you can do for yourself, and you gotta know when you need to look to other people.”
"When I met with Puffy, he articulated that Hip-Hop should be part of the Top 40 mainstream and that the business would change in the future," he added.
Nick Bryant, an investigative journalist known for his work on child exploitation and sex trafficking, believes Clive Davis may be behind P. Diddy's alleged criminal activities. He argued that Davis has evaded legal consequences for multiple felonies, including tax fraud and involvement in a major payola scandal.
What’s the Truth About Jose Menendez and Clive Davis?
Viewers allege that Menendez worked for Davis. However, this may not be the case.
It is true that Jose Menendez and Clive Davis both worked at RCA Records – but they did not seem to work there simultaneously. As previously reported by the LA Times, Jose Menendez was a top executive at the company in the 1980s. Davis became the president and CEO of RCA Music Group in 2002. Although Davis was not part of RCA when Menendez was working there, they operated in the same broader music industry, so it’s possible that they still knew each other.
Closing Thoughts
It may seem far-fetched to link these two cases, and these TikTokers are likely to be labeled as “conspiracy theorists” by the majority. But they are allowed to (and should) ask questions about the circles in which these men operated. Like the disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein, Diddy is a high-profile individual with connections to powerful figures in the entertainment industry.
The pattern is clear. It’s as if these powerful people operate within the same shadowy network, protecting each other and covering up crimes that span decades.
