Established in 1947 by the American Theatre Wing, the Tony Awards were named after Antoinette Perry, an actress, director, and producer. The awards aim to honor the best performances, plays, musicals, directors, choreographers, designers, and creative teams in Broadway theater. Over the years, the Tonys have become a symbol of artistic excellence and a significant milestone for actors, directors, and everyone involved in the theater industry. In fact, the Tonys are often referred to as the "Oscars of the Theater."

The 76th Tony Awards was led this year by Ariana DeBose and hosted at the United Palace in New York City's Washington Heights. In addition to being the place where theater folks flock for the highest accolades, it's known for its eye-catching fashion. Here were the best dresses we saw on the red carpet this year.

Ariana DeBose

A plunging neckline and a backless design looked pretty on DeBose, and her hair was parted to the side and pulled halfway back.

Julianne Hough

A halter neckline and cinched waist is a classic dress shape, but the floral pattern added a beautiful punch to Hough's look.

Lea Michele

Michele's lovely white and red floral gown had thin straps with a square neckline, and it looked gorgeous on her figure.

Jessica Chastain

She stole the show as usual. Chastain has had some knockouts on the red carpet lately, and tonight was no different. She emerged with a bright pop of color that complemented her skin tone, accompanied by a lovely matching cape.

Jodie Comer

Black may be a classic color, but Comer's strapless gown was unique due to its drop waist skirt and tailored corset. Her sleek, side-parted hair made the whole ensemble look elegant.

Stephanie Hsu

Drop sleeves and a full skirt made Hsu's black gown look flattering and pretty.

Miriam Silverman

We saw another bright pop of color on the red carpet from Silverman, this time with a little surprise from the accent sleeves on her fitted gown.

Michelle Williams

Williams showed up to support her husband Thomas Kail, who was nominated for producing "Sweeney Todd." She wore a silver gown with relaxed short sleeves.
