"It is my honor to announce Jon Voight, Mel Gibson, and Sylvester Stallone as Special Ambassadors to a great but very troubled place, Hollywood, California,” Trump shared on Truth Social.

“They will serve as Special Envoys to me for the purpose of bringing Hollywood, which has lost much business over the last four years to foreign countries, BACK—BIGGER, BETTER, AND STRONGER THAN EVER BEFORE!"

Hollywood’s Downward Spiral

Trump’s announcement comes amid an ongoing downward spiral for Hollywood. The region is grappling with the aftermath of devastating wildfires in Southern Los Angeles, which have destroyed thousands of homes and businesses, with damages estimated at $250 billion.

Compounding the crisis, Hollywood’s domestic box office revenues for 2024 fell to $8.7 billion—down 3.3% from the previous year and a staggering 23.5% from pre-pandemic levels in 2019. The strikes by actors and writers in 2023 further disrupted the industry, leaving gaps in the release calendar and a noticeable decline in audience engagement.

Trump’s selection of Stallone, Gibson, and Voight reflects his desire to restore Hollywood’s creative and economic vitality by leaning on figures who have both the star power and the principles to challenge the status quo.

Respected Veterans with a Vision

Each of the appointees has been a vocal supporter of Trump and has a track record of defying the woke chokehold in Hollywood.

Sylvester Stallone, beloved for his portrayal of underdog champions in films like Rocky and Rambo, recently starred in the hit Paramount+ series Tulsa King. Stallone called Trump “the second George Washington” during a Mar-a-Lago event, and his dedication to inspiring narratives aligns with the mission to restore Hollywood’s cultural prestige.

Mel Gibson, despite facing industry blacklisting for past controversies, returned triumphantly with the Oscar-winning Hacksaw Ridge in 2016. His upcoming action film Flight Risk, starring Mark Wahlberg, releases on January 24.

Jon Voight, an Academy Award-winning actor with a storied career, has remained steadfast in his admiration for Trump despite intense pressure, even from his daughter Angelina Jolie. Voight’s recent work includes Megalopolis with Francis Ford Coppola and Reagan, a biopic where he appeared alongside Dennis Quaid.

Trump’s announcement also comes in the shadow of one of Hollywood’s most controversial moments in recent years—the high-profile firing of actress Gina Carano from Disney’s The Mandalorian. Carano, a fan favorite for her role as Cara Dune, was abruptly fired in 2021 after sharing social media posts that sparked faux outrage among progressives but resonated with many Americans. Critics labeled her views as inflammatory, while supporters argued that her dismissal highlighted a double standard in Hollywood’s treatment of political expression.

Carano’s firing ignited a much-needed cultural conversation about censorship and blacklisting in the entertainment industry as Hollywood frequently silences voices that don’t align with its prevailing political ideology. Carano herself described the experience as an “orchestrated smear campaign.”

Hollywood’s New Golden Era

The appointments have sparked hope among many that Hollywood’s era of stale ideological conformity may be coming to an end. Supporters believe this initiative could pave the way for healthier work environments, renewed creative freedom, and a focus on storytelling that resonates with audiences worldwide.

The move also aligns with Trump’s broader vision of keeping American industries competitive. By empowering veteran actors and directors with proven success and global appeal, the administration aims to re-establish Hollywood as the vibrant cultural force it once was.
