"He was a hero that shielded his daughters," she continued. "His wife and girls just lived through the unthinkable and unimaginable. My baby brother just turned 50 and had so much life left to experience. Hatred has no limits and love has no bounds. Pray for my sister-in-law, nieces, my mother, sister, me and his nieces and nephews as this feels like a terrible nightmare but we know it is our painful reality."
Comperatore's daughter Allyson shared a heartbreaking tribute on Facebook, saying that she "wishes could cry on him and tell him thank you."
Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro also honored Comperatore, stating, “Corey died a hero. Corey dove on his family to protect them last night.” Shapiro underscored the deep loss felt by the community, describing Comperatore as a man who loved his family and served his community with distinction.
The FBI identified the shooter as Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania. Crooks was killed by Secret Service agents after he attacked from an elevated position outside the rally venue at a farm show in Butler. Authorities also revealed that bomb-making materials were found inside Crooks' vehicle and home, indicating the potential for even greater tragedy.
Two other spectators were critically wounded in the attack, adding to the toll of an event meant to rally political support.
As the investigation continues, the focus remains on honoring Corey Comperatore's legacy as a true American hero. A GoFundMe fundraiser has been created for his family and has already received nearly six thousand individual donations.
