Viral "Hot Nanny" On TikTok Causes Controversy—Should You Hire A Hot Babysitter?

A Colombian woman posted a video of her nannying on TikTok earlier this week, and men are calling the wife "stupid" for hiring her, saying her attractiveness could lead husbands to "make a mistake."

The debate over whether parents should hire an attractive nanny has been reignited, thanks to a Colombian woman going viral on social media platforms this week.

Men – especially on X/Twitter – are claiming that the wife was "stupid" for hiring babysitter Karen Ardila because, obviously, the husband is going to cheat. Thousands of quote tweets later, everyone has something to say about an innocent video Ardila posted of herself nannying a sweet, blond-haired, blue-eyed toddler. What was supposed to be a nice TikTok turned into a debate on whether or not parents should hire an attractive woman to take care of their kids.

There are men doubling down on the idea that hiring an attractive babysitter is dangerous. User @CatholicOrca, who identifies as Christian, wrote, “Just gonna be 100% honest. If you put a Nanny like this in my house, eventually most men are gonna make a mistake. Especially if she’s the one cooking, cleaning & taking care of my children – while wifey is out being a girl boss in an office.”

“I smell a divorce happening here, too,” @littlenudge_ assumed.

@BowTied BowTier wrote, "Mom is an idiot for having a nanny that hot."

People also pointed out how ridiculous the notion is that just because a woman is attractive, she’s automatically a homewrecker. One tweet by @wanyeburkett summed it up perfectly: "I love how it’s simply implied in every one of these takes that the hot nanny would want to f*ck the husband in the first place.”

However, there are countless women agreeing with the “hot nanny” paranoia. @realfemsapien chimed in, “No, I would never hire a young and hot nanny. If I did, my husband wouldn't cheat, but that's not the point. That's like having cocaine in my house. Why would I have cocaine in my house? It doesn't belong there!” I partly agree in the sense that certain situations can lead people to make decisions they might regret later – like at bachelor parties or strip clubs.

@rawmilkhoney added, "Imagine you’re at work and your baby is growing attached to your hot young nanny and she’s showering your baby with kisses and your husband has eye balls. I would kill myself."

The parents obviously hired Ardila because of her qualifications and experience. Given how they allow her to share her work on TikTok and how close she is with the boy she babysits, it's clear she's trusted. Maybe she’s family, or they’ve known her for a long time. Either way, it is fairly misogynistic to assume that the second a “hot nanny” enters the house, she’s plotting on how to seduce her boss. In addition, the fact that the blame falls on the mother for hiring an attractive babysitter shows the lack of accountability for many of the men on X.

In my opinion, looks have nothing to do with infidelity involving a nanny. Men have also cheated with women who aren’t deemed “conventionally attractive” by society. People have had affairs with individuals they've met through work, school, church, or on the plane, even. It boils down to whether someone has willpower, discipline, and loyalty, all traits that seem to be disappearing in modern relationships. If your marriage is solid and built on trust, hiring any qualified babysitter shouldn’t be a problem.

Meanwhile, others are trying to draw comparisons to women cheating on their husbands with personal trainers. “Having a hot young nanny in the house for a man is like having a hot young personal trainer for a woman — not [allowed],” wrote @vocalcry.

@ControlledNeo shares his experience of being a personal trainer. "I was a personal trainer for 6 years, and I slept with many of my clients who had husbands," he said. "Women should only have female trainers."

A fitness coach named Mikayla (@honeyNonABG) responded, "Wait - why do you want women to be accountable when you were partaking in so much of it?" Again, if the woman is cheating with anyone, personal trainer or not, that relationship is doomed to fail.

@MedGold_ hilariously points out that most people can’t even afford to hire a nanny in the first place, sharing findings that show more than one in four Americans have savings below $1,000. In this economy? True. Maybe everyone should worry about their own relationships or focus on getting their bag up instead of fantasizing about a hot nanny.

Then, there are men who say that the mom could be doing what the nanny does had she decided not to be a girlboss. "The mom has basically checked out of domestic life and just basically had a kid due to fulfilling yet another alpha female checkbox," says @bizlet7. "She got a hot Columbian nanny to replace her for both child raising and the other duties she doesn’t want to take care of."

Yet, amid all the noise and assumptions, Ardilar is very happily engaged, and the wife and husband in question have not responded to any of the accusations. So I'm going to jump in with my think piece: I don’t know her, but she clearly loves her job and her fiancé, and she likely wouldn’t risk it all. Just one week ago, Ardila shared a sweet photo of her and her man, captioning it, "Just two fiancés❣️."
