I’ve Used The Viral Solawave Skincare Wand For 6 Months. Here’s My Honest Review

After launching in 2020, Solawave has garnered rave reviews across social media and beauty magazines. The brand boldly promises “better skin in two weeks” when you use their now-viral red light therapy wand, which I’ve used semi-regularly for about six months. Is it worth all the hype? Let’s dive in.

I have honestly never been much of a skincare person. My routine for most of my life involved washing my face and maybe putting on moisturizer, but that changed when I was tasked with writing advertisements for a skincare company in 2022. The assignment forced me to dig into the fundamentals of a solid skincare regimen, and the more I researched, the more I realized I needed one if I wanted to keep my skin looking good into my thirties and beyond. I gradually pieced together a routine and made some purchases.

Enter the Solawave Wand

And you know what happened next, right? Almost immediately after I bought a few skincare staples, Instagram started bombarding me with every kind of skincare advertisement imaginable, including ads for the Solawave 4-in-1 Radiant Renewal Wand. It caught my attention, and I sent a message to my esthetician friend and asked if she thought it would actually do what it promised. I was skeptical, especially since I was familiar with the world of advertising and knew that exaggeration is a common practice when it comes to beauty products. To my surprise, she said that estheticians use similar types of therapy when treating clients, so, in theory, the wand should be effective.

The Solawave Wand's Unique Features

After a little internal screaming, I went ahead and dropped $140 on the wand. I rarely spend that much on beauty-related items, but, if it actually worked, then I figured it would save me money since other types of treatments wouldn’t be necessary. Plus, the technology truly struck me as innovative. The wand blends red light therapy, galvanic current, facial massage, and therapeutic warmth into a short DIY treatment. These four elements work together to rejuvenate the skin at a cellular level and help products better penetrate the skin. So, I gave them my money and hoped for the best.

One other nice thing I’ll add about Solawave is that since I bought my wand, they’ve regularly had sales and promotions, so it’s likely that you could snag a wand for less if you time your purchase right.

Using the Solawave Wand

To use it, you simply apply your favorite serum and follow Solawave’s prescribed method of gliding the wand in upward and outward motions for 12-15 minutes. You can spend extra time on certain areas, like your forehead or smile lines, and you can also use the wand on your neck, which is a great bonus since that’s a spot that’s usually neglected when it comes to skincare. Personally, between the warming technology and taking a little 15-minute break from my busy life with kids and work, I found that incorporating the wand into my routine was easy and enjoyable – almost like a mini spa treatment.

The Results

That said, I didn’t use it every single day. Instead, I would call it semi-regular use, averaging at least three times a week. Still, I was truly surprised when I didn’t get better skin in two weeks – my skin actually looked better after the first use. That’s because the microcurrent is stimulating enough that you get a temporary glow from just one session. After two weeks of use, I noticed that a spot of milia near my left eye was getting smaller. Within a month, it was completely gone. Now, six months later, my pores are smaller, and the fine lines around my eyes and mouth are less pronounced. This video of me from August compared to a video I took last week highlights the difference in my overall skin texture and firmness.

What really confirmed the results to me was another conversation with my esthetician friend a few weeks ago. She said that my skin looked better than ever and asked what I was doing differently. It suddenly dawned on me – I’d been using the wand more consistently than I ever have, probably around five times a week instead of three. Her observation inspired me to stick to a more consistent routine.

Addressing Skepticism

As I said earlier, it’s completely understandable to be hesitant whenever a product promises wildly good (and fast) results. Usually, it’s not going to live up to the hype. But with the Solawave wand, the technology is sound, which means it’s just a matter of time and consistent use before you’ll inevitably see some improvement in your skin. In my case, it was significant enough that I’m going to continue to use it for the foreseeable future.

Your personal skincare struggles might affect how quickly you notice improvement, but the wand has a growing track record of success when it comes to helping those who are struggling with acne, scars, and hyperpigmentation. That’s why I would recommend it to those who want to treat specific problems, or to women like me who simply want to prevent wrinkles in a non-invasive way. That said, there are some common contraindications to check out before you splurge.

Who Else Loves the Solawave?

Support for the Solawave wand only seems to be growing, including among celebrities. Charles Melton’s stylist Candice Birns shared that she recommended he use the wand before his appearance at the Golden Globes because he wasn’t feeling well, and it helped him look healthy for the photo-filled event. Other celebrities like Olivia Wilde, Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, and Mandy Moore have also endorsed the pocket-sized wand. Dermatologists recommend it, too, including Dr. Sheila Farhang. Their reasoning is simple: The combination of red light therapy, warmth, massage, and galvanic current is undeniably good for improving the look of your skin.

Closing Thoughts

My experience with the Solawave wand makes me optimistic about the future of skincare technology. I’m hopeful that innovative devices like this will reduce the pressure that many women feel to get more invasive procedures done as they age. Whether you're already a skincare enthusiast or a total newbie like I was, I really don’t think you’ll regret this particular investment in your self-care routine. It might just become your new favorite thing.
