Born Norma Jeane Baker, Marilyn Monroe became a beauty icon and beloved actress who lured men in with her vulnerability and voluptuous figure. But much of her life was riddled with trauma, loss, and heartbreak, and even though she was considered to be one of the most beautiful women to ever appear in Hollywood, many pitied her because of the sadness that was written all over her face. She was married and divorced three times and was suspected to have an affair with President John F. Kennedy (and perhaps even his brother). Marilyn was 36 years old when she died on August 4, 1962 in her Los Angeles home. Her death has always been reported as a drug overdose, but there are many rumors that her death was not a suicide and that her body was tampered with after she died.
Was Marilyn Monroe's Body Tampered with After She Died? These Are the Strange Facts We Know
On Sunday, August 5, 1962, Marilyn was found dead in her home. She was lying facedown in her bed, naked, and there was a telephone in her hand. There were allegedly empty bottles of pills surrounding her and eventually law enforcement ruled her death was a "self-administered overdose of sedative drugs." While many accepted the idea that she committed suicide (after all, she was troubled with trauma and struggled with mental health issues for years), fans for decades to come would question whether she really did decide to kill herself. There have always been rumors that the Kennedys were involved with her death. A couple decades after she died, Marilyn's housekeeper said the attorney general visited Marilyn on the night of her death and they had an argument, but these statements have never been confirmed.
There are a few strange occurrences that arose from Marilyn's death that make people question whether her body was tampered with after she passed away. For one, it took 6 hours to transport Marilyn's body from her home to the morgue, when it was a drive that should have only taken 45 minutes. Dr. Thomas Neguchi conducted her investigation the same day she died and it was noted that she looked unrecognizable; her face had lots of bruising and swelling, but this could be because she was found face down. TikToker @lovee.miss.lauren said she has been to many death scenes where people are found face down and "decomposition likes to have a mind of its own."
In his book Pardon My Hearse, mortician Allan Abbot also said that Marilyn didn't look like herself at all when her body was brought in for an autopsy. "When we removed the sheet covering her, it was almost impossible to believe this was the body of Marilyn Monroe," he said. "She looked like a very average, aging woman who had not been taking very good care of herself. Obviously, the circumstances surrounding her death had greatly exacerbated her poor appearance and she was unrecognizable."
Another weird fact is that nothing was found in Marilyn's stomach during the autopsy and everything was disintegrated. Plus, what was found in the stomach was said to be "accidentally discarded." Suspicious to say the least. When someone dies of a drug overdose, some remnants would be found in their stomach, so people are very hesitant to believe that Marilyn committed suicide by taking too many prescription pills. Two people who performed her autopsy later came forward to say they didn't think she died of suicide because they didn't find any evidence of her ingesting the drugs in the first place. It was also reported that some standard tests weren't even completed during her autopsy.
However, there is no hard evidence to suggest that her body was missing or tampered with, only rumors and allegations that leave people speculating. Her funeral took place on August 8, 1962 and it was a small gathering that was arranged by her ex-husband Joe DiMaggio, her half sister, and her business manager. Her body was put to rest at the Corridor of Memories.
