WEF's Linda Yaccarino Announced As Twitter's New CEO—Here's Why That's Concerning
Elon Musk welcomes Linda Yaccarino, World Economic Forum (WEF) member, as the new CEO of Twitter. Should we be worried?
Earlier this year, Elon Musk trashed the World Economic Forum's "environmental, social and governance" (ESG) plans and labeled them "satanic." It seems Musk has changed his mind, since he recently hired Linda Yaccarino, a former World Economic Forum (WEF) member, as the new CEO of Twitter.
Online sleuths looked into Yaccarino's past this week, and many noticed that "World Economic Forum (Jan 2019 - Present)" was listed on her LinkedIn.
According to her LinkedIn, Yaccarino is the "Chairman of the WEF's Taskforce on Future of Work and sits on the WEF's Media, Entertainment and Culture Industry Governers Steering Committee" and is "highly engaged with the Value in Media initiative."
Besides her affiliation with WEF, Yaccarino was also the Chairman of Advertising at NBC Universal – in other words, the new Twitter CEO has plenty of experience with the media and ads, and it appears she's going to use her knowledge to transform Twitter into an app that'll appeal to advertisers. There's a chance free speech will be harmed in the long run, since companies will have more say on what should and shouldn't be allowed on the platform. And I'm afraid this isn't a far-fetched conspiracy theory – just last month, Yaccarino encouraged Musk to allow advertisers to have more influence over Twitter. “Product development, ad safe, content moderation, that's what the influence is," she explained.
On May 12, 2023, Musk announced Yaccarino's new role as CEO. "I am excited to welcome Linda Yaccarino as the new CEO of Twitter," the Tesla founder wrote. "@LindaYacc will focus primarily on business operations, while I focus on product design & new technology. Looking forward to working with Linda to transform this platform into X, the everything app."
Reasons Why You Shouldn't Trust the WEF
There are multiple reasons why the announcement of Yaccarino's new position as CEO is fueling concerns at this moment, yet writing one article explaining the organization's questionable behavior and goals would take far too long. Luckily, our writers at Evie have tracked the WEF's actions over the past three years. If you want to learn more and spread awareness on this issue, take the time to read our top five WEF articles.
