What Happened Between Taylor Swift And Kim Kardashian? Here's Why Swifties Are Calling Kim A "Snake"
The alleged drama between Taylor Swift and Kim Kardashian is messy, so let us break it down for you.
Taylor Swift vs Kim Kardashian is the celebrity feud of the 21st century.
The two women have been pitted against each other, and the Swifties have come to defend their queen. If you haven't been following the alleged drama between these powerful women, here's the run-down.
It Started with Kanye
It all started when Kanye West rudely interrupted the then 19-year-old Swift at the MTV Video Music Awards in September 2009. When she was accepting the Best Female Video award for "You Belong with Me," the rapper went on stage to say, "Yo, Taylor, I'm really happy for you, and I'mma let you finish, but Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time. One of the best videos of all time!"
For the next several years, Ye flip-flopped and gave his apologies to Swift only to take them back. Somehow, the two finally seemed to get along in 2015. The rapper even sent Swift flowers that same year in September.
Turns out, there was still bad blood between the two. In 2016, Ye dropped his song "Famous," complete with lyrics dissing Swift: "I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex / Why? I made that b*tch famous."
He also claimed to have gotten the singer's approval before the song was released. "I called Taylor and had an hour long convo with her about the line, and she thought it was funny and gave her blessings," Kanye revealed at the time.
Swift's team denied this, stating that Kanye never got Swift's permission and instead asked her to promote the song. They stated, "Kanye did not call for approval, but to ask Taylor to release his single 'Famous' on her Twitter account. She declined and cautioned him about releasing a song with such a strong misogynistic message. Taylor was never made aware of the actual lyric, 'I made that b*tch famous.'"
Kim Kardashian vs Taylor Swift Explained
Kim Kardashian got involved months later. "She [Swift] totally approved that," the SKIMS founder said. "She wanted to all of a sudden act like she didn't. I swear, my husband gets so much sh*t for things [when] he really was doing proper protocol and even called to get it approved."
Kardashian also released video footage of the phone call between the two musicians and suggested that National Snake Day was a holiday for Swift. "And then they sent an attorney's letter like 'Don't you dare do anything with that footage,' and asking us to destroy it," Kardashian said.
Swift released a statement after this. “Where is the video of Kanye telling me he was going to call me ‘that b*tch’ in his song? It doesn’t exist because it never happened," she wrote. "You don’t get to control someone’s emotional response to being called ‘that b*tch’ in front of the entire world.”
"Being falsely painted as a liar when I was never given the full story or played any part of the song is character assassination," Swift added. "I would very much like to be excluded from this narrative, one that I have never asked to be a part of, since 2009.”
Kardashian stood her ground, doubling down in 2020 and calling Swift a "liar."
The singer said she hit rock bottom after people began calling her a "snake" online due to Kardashian, greatly affecting her mental health. “A few years ago, someone started an online hate campaign by calling me a snake on the internet,” Swift told Elle. “The fact that so many people jumped on board with it led me to feeling lower than I’ve ever felt in my life.”
People relentlessly attacked Swift, even painting murals of the end of her career.
This week, Swift spoke with Time and spilled everything. She revealed how the ordeal felt like "a career death."
“Make no mistake – my career was taken away from me," she said. Kardashian's actions affected her so much that she moved to a different country and stayed home for an entire year. "You have a fully manufactured frame job, in an illegally recorded phone call, which Kim Kardashian edited and then put out to say to everyone that I was a liar. That took me down psychologically to a place I’ve never been before. I moved to a foreign country. I didn’t leave a rental house for a year. I was afraid to get on phone calls. I pushed away most people in my life because I didn’t trust anyone anymore. I went down really, really hard.”
You're all caught up! Now the tables have turned, and Swifties are flocking to Kardashian's socials to spam the snake emoji.
