We've seen some memorable trends on TikTok over the last few years, and while some are entertaining and funny, others can be downright silly. But then there are some trends that make you shake your head in disappointment, like the pregnancy list that has skyrocketed in popularity.

When you're scrolling through TikTok, at any point you can expect to see a wide variety of content, whether it's clever cooking hacks, a new lipsync trend, or politically charged rants. But every once in a while there's a trend that makes you stop and stare, and that's exactly what you feel when you read the pregnancy list that is circulating TikTok. Any mom knows that pregnancy isn't exactly a walk in the park, and there can be some pretty annoying moments that feel impossible to get through. But it's worth it in the end, to say the least. Unfortunately, there are a number of women on TikTok (and in society) who don't see the same value in it.

What Is the Pregnancy List Trend On TikTok and Why Is It Going Viral? This Is Why Some Women Are Promising to Never Become Mothers

TikToker @thelifeofronny shared a list called "Things That Can Happen That Further Prevents Me From Wanting Children Based on Things I've Seen on the Internet," and it's full of reasons why she is choosing not to have kids. The video went viral, received thousands of likes, and started a conversation in the comment section about why so many women aren't at all interested in becoming mothers.

"You could have a baby by a whole damn clown and not know until it's too late," read the very first one. "It can cost 30k+ to have a baby" was the second reason. Subsequent reasons included daycare costing at least $150 a week for infants, the possibility of going blind, a likelihood of contracting diabetes, etc. "Your coochie can rip," another reason read. The 17th one on the list was "Your armpits can get titty milk" and she stitched her list to another woman's video, who demonstrated that she could squirt breastmilk out of a part of her bulging armpit.

The video was so popular that she decided to make a series of this pregnancy list. @thelifeofronny continued her list with 27 more reasons why she doesn't want to get pregnant, including morning sickness, change in eyesight, larger feet, shorter eyelash. "Your pelvic bone can separate," she wrote. "You can get sciatica/sciatic nerve pain... Your ribs can dislocate/floating ribs." She also named the likelihood of stress incontinence, facial paralysis, sinus infections, and preeclampsia.

The third list got 1.1 million views, and it included a total of 77 reasons why she doesn't want to get pregnant. "Your skin will just be itchy," she wrote. "Breast can grow bigger... Dry mouth constantly... You can get tendinitis... Your ear lobes can slit. Think pac-man."

Many of the things on the list are uncommon if not rare side effects that could happen to you if you're pregnant—but won't happen if you are healthy and take care of yourself throughout the pregnancy. However, even more depressing than looking at this almost paranoid list is reading through the comments.

"Girl you gotta release it online so we can copy and print it," someone commented.

"Please make this downloadable 🙏" a woman wrote.

"I have a lot you could add to this lol," someone said. To which Ronny replied, "I have about 20 new entries…I’m trying to wait for it to stop trending lol."

"My coworker developed a nut allergy and could never enjoy a PB&J or Reese again," another person said. Ronny replied, "I would fight the baby."

And this goes on and on for all the videos in her series. Of course there are some side effects on the list that most mothers have experienced at least once in their pregnancy, and just about every pregnant woman has experienced that split second where they wish they never had sex in the first place. But none of the common inconveniences that come along with pregnancy could ever compare to the reward and fulfillment of bringing your own child into the world. This, of course, isn't mentioned anywhere in any of these videos or comment sections.

The other thing that stands out is how women think that all of these potential side effects are just things that happen to you and are completely out of your control. But the majority of the things on that list can be prevented, controlled, and treated with lifestyle and diet. This is something that many women don't want to admit, though, as that forces them to take personal responsibility of themselves.

Sure, TikToks like this are meant to be slightly humorous, but it's concerning that our mainstream culture has made it so popular and trendy to bash pregnancy and make it seem like one of the worst things you'll ever do in the world, encouraging women to swear off motherhood. The most popular things we see on social media are an accurate reflection of the current state of our culture. And it's no wonder why the birth rate is below replacement.
