What The Fashion Girls Are Wearing This Month: July 2023 Edition
Just ‘fit checking in with some of our favorite fashion people. Style status update? It’s still summer. (Hallelujah)
July is almost over, which means it’s time to take inventory of what the fashion girls are wearing – and what they’re leaving behind – this month. As summer climaxes, so does summer style, and we’ve officially reached the fever pitch. When temperatures are high, inhibitions are low, and people feel more free to play and experiment with their style. If ever there was a time to break any remaining stylistic molds, it is now.
In July, nary was there a street corner without a pretty little sundress or a matching linen set. Color reigned, but, paradoxically, so did neutrals, and summer whites officially solidified their “top G” status. Ivory ensembles were seen in as many variations as there are shades of the pigment-challenged hue (ever tried painting your walls “white”?), and it was almost impossible to walk down the street without seeing an alabaster getup on tanned skin carrying a straw tote bag. Whether at the farmers market or the Italian Riviera, one thing is for sure: Girls be getting their whites on before Labor Day.
As far as everything else the girls are wearing – and notably what they’re not – look no further than the following to get all caught up:

Spotted: Wimbledon Mode
Princess Kate
As is her custom, Princess Kate donned many perfect looks at Wimbledon this month. This spring green set was one of our favorites, as it matched everything on the court from the terrain to the tennis balls.
Ariana Grande
Devastated by news of Ariana’s breakup, and also by this sophisticated melange grey Wimbledon look from Ralph Lauren.
Rumor has it she sat next to Andrew Garfield and Jonathan Bailey during the match, which has the internet in chaos.
Issa Rae
Issa Rae, who stars alongside Margot Robbie in the Barbie movie, also had a standout performance at Wimbledon in a pink Alaïa mini dress. Match point.
Spotted: Barbie Herself
Queen Margot
If Margot Robbie isn’t the real Barbie, she’s certainly fooled us. Seen in a truly prolific array of Barbie-inspired outfits over the last few months, Robbie has channeled the plastic icon with poise and commitment, and it has been a phenomenon in its own right. Robbie has single-handedly made the movie all anyone can talk about, and it’s paying off.
In a Netflix ‘n chill turn of events, Margot turned down the glam – but remained in character – while traveling this month. For a Barbiecore look that’s less eveningwear and more WFH, here’s all the inspo you need.
Slay Mitchell
Shay Mitchell doing what she does best at the Barbie premiere: playing bombshell and slaying all the way.
Mara Lafontan
French model and influencer Mara Lafontan’s take on Barbiecore was slightly edgier with a fuzzy pink mini and contrasting red tights. We give it five stars for originality and “rebel with a cause” energy.
Juny Breeze
Self-proclaimed Mediterranean Parisian Juny Breeze doing #Barbiecore the Parisian way: with handmade tricot knit and a chic headscarf. C’est parfait.
Closing Thoughts
When it came to the style climate, July still looked very much like summer with cutie mini sundresses, flowy maxis, all-white ensembles, and pretty pops of color. What July didn’t look like was fitted blazers, leggings, and shapeless tent dresses – such were nowhere to be found. Our end of summer prescription includes squeezing every last drop out of these last few weeks in preparation for colder days ahead. In other words, wear all the flowy dresses, get extra sunkissed (nothing beats that vitamin D glow), and stay outdoors *well* past bedtime.
