Who is Thomas Matthew Crooks, the shooter in former President Donald Trump's assassination attempt? Here's what we know so far and the suspicious things surrounding him.

Who Is Thomas Matthew Crooks?

20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks – the gunman who shot from a roof in an attempt to assassinate Trump – hails from Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, about 43 miles from the rally on Saturday. He is assumed to have Scottish and Jewish ancestry, per Southern Gospel Times.

Crooks graduated from Bethel Park High School in 2022 and was said to have registered as a Republican, but many believe that the registration was used as a “camouflage" since Crooks is believed to have donated to ActBlue in 2021.

Crooks was an alleged rifle enthusiast in high school; however, his classmate Jameson Myers said Crooks didn’t make the rifle team and never tried out again. Another classmate, Jameson Murphy, informed the New York Post that Crooks “was such a comically bad shot he was unable to make the team and left after the first day.”

Another classmate told the outlet that the rifle team coach had concerns about Crooks due to “some crass jokes” he made and his interactions with others. “Our old coach was a stickler, he trained Navy marksmen, so he knew people. He knew when someone’s not the greatest person,” the classmate said. Crooks was a part of a local gun club, the Clairton Sportsmen’s Club.

Jason Kohler, a student from the same high school, told CNN that Crooks was bullied by other students and appeared to be a “loner.” According to Kohler, Crooks had “no facial expression” when he walked through the school’s halls, and “He wasn’t, like, with the clique, so he always had, I guess, a target on his back.”

Former student Sarah D’Angelo recalled Crooks as “a quiet kid, not obviously political or violent in any way.”

A third classmate who wished to remain anonymous said Crooks was intelligent, took honors classes, and was shy. She claimed that he had a group of fairly conservative friends. “There was definitely chatter about him just looking a little different,” the classmate added. “Almost a retro nerd vibe.”

Social media users are highly suspicious of these reports. "None of this makes sense. Ex-classmates describe the Trump shooter as a political conservative who wore 'hunting' outfits to class, donated $15 to a progressive PAC in 2021, then registered as a Republican later. He also has a virtually nonexistent social media footprint," noted @emeriticus on X/Twitter.

Thomas Matthew Crooks’ Nonexistent Digital Footprint

What 20-year-old doesn’t have a social media account or has no digital footprint? These are the questions that have everyone puzzled. Is it possible that the FBI has scrubbed his history on the internet? “Guys there’s nothing strange going on here,” commentator Matt Walsh wrote. “The 20 year old shooter had never used social media or posted a single thing on the internet, ever, and his phone cannot be accessed because it has a password which our government’s best hackers cannot bypass. That’s all. Normal stuff.”

Others theorize that Crooks was an Mk-Ultra test subject. "Yeah definitely a 20 year old in the year 2024 who shoots at the president had zero digital footprint and is not a MKultra test subject," tweeted @SeanMCarthyCom.

Thomas Matthew Crooks in BlackGuard Ad

Social media sleuths were stunned to find a young man who strongly resembled Crooks in a 2023 BlackRock ad. The video was shot at Bethel Park High School, the same school the shooter attended. Many speculate that BlackRock has a finger in every pie, from political to business institutions. "BlackRock Inc is connected in some way to almost every big company and political campaign," wrote user @The_Maker_51212. "They're very much part of the ruling elite classes/shadow donors who actually run the show from the background."

Additionally, previous reports have revealed that BlackRock and Vanguard clients are the two largest shareholders in the six major media companies that dominate over 90% of the U.S. media landscape. BlackRock's CEO, Larry Fink, has been dubbed the "woke face of capitalism."

Thomas Matthew Crooks Seemingly Allowed on Roof

A Trump supporter says he saw Crooks climb up on the roof before he attempted to kill the presidential candidate and tried to warn the police and Secret Service but was ultimately ignored.

Another angle uploaded by an attendee shows numerous people watching Crooks on the roof and pointing him out. Yet, nothing was done to stop him.

Two sources told NBC News that the rooftop where Crooks shot at Trump was identified by the Secret Service as a potential vulnerability in the days before the event. Richard Goldinger, a Butler County District Attorney, said his office's Emergency Services Unit team deployed four sniper teams and four “quick response teams” at the rally. However, Goldinger says the Secret Service agents were in charge of security outside the venue.

“They had meetings in the week prior. The Secret Service ran the show. They were the ones who designated who did what,” Goldinger explained. “In the command hierarchy, they were top, they were No. 1.”

It seems Crooks was allowed to do the unimaginable, and it's a good thing he failed. A Secret Service sniper killed him after he shot at Trump. Kevin Rojek, the FBI Pittsburgh special agent in charge, maintains that the shooter's motives are unclear. "We do not currently have an identified motive," he said.
