Why I’m Sad Gisele Bündchen Is Pregnant With Another Man’s Kid

While social media is busy dunking on Tom Brady, as a long-time fan of the iconic duo, it’s actually heart-wrenching to witness Gisele Bündchen expecting a child with her new boyfriend, Joaquim Valente.

It feels like not that long ago, we were all swooning over her and Tom as the ultimate power couple. He’s the football superstar, and she’s the Victoria's Secret supermodel. They seemingly had the ideal marriage, shared beautiful children, and were both attractive, and they raved about each other throughout their relationship. Yet, I found myself suddenly becoming disillusioned after their divorce on October 28, 2022.

More recently, Tom’s reportedly “stunned” by Gisele’s pregnancy news – and can you blame him? This man is truly going through it, regardless of how you feel about him. His recent social media posts featured Fleetwood Mac's poignant song, "Landslide." Yeah, he is hurting. The lyric read, "❤️❤️❤️ Oh, mirror in the sky, what is love?”

Sources told Page Six that Tom was “blindsided” by the pregnancy news. He had only learned about it days before it hit the headlines. “Tom knew that things were serious between Gisele and Joaquin but he never imagined they would be having a child together,” said a source. It sounds like this is a tough pill for Tom to swallow.

Fans are weighing in on the drama. Some feel for Gisele. @nhoodpublicist tweeted, “I think the wildest part about Tom and Gisele divorce is all he had to do was stay retired and he couldn’t even do that. Men are so unserious no matter the socioeconomic status.” 

@hollowearthterf said, "He didn’t really provide that life, she did. Gisele makes more money than Tom and yet she still did so much to support him while he never returned the favor. The one thing she asked was that he retire in his mid 40s (already late for the NFL) and he couldn’t keep his promise."

Others came to Tom's defense, saying Gisele cheated on him. @iam_johnw stated, “Gisele cheating on Tom Brady and then complaining about how the narrative looks after the fact is insane lmao.” 

Tom's challenges are resonating with a lot of men. If someone like him can face infidelity, what hope is there for the rest of us? One user quipped, “If TB12 can get cheated on, your *ss has no chance.” 

When asked about the rumors surrounding their divorce, Gisele spoke candidly to Vanity Fair, calling some of the tabloids “very hurtful” and “the craziest thing I’ve ever heard.” She said, “I have always cheered for him, and I would continue forever. If there’s one person I want to be the happiest in the world, it’s him, believe me.”

Gisele and Joaquim apparently started dating in June 2023, 8 months after the model and Brady's divorce, but the quarterback is allegedly skeptical of the timeline. Page Six even reported on the former Victoria's Secret Angel and Valente in November 2022, and their insider revealed then that the two were "deeply in love." Of course, I have questions. When did the model and her trainer fall in love? Was it during the divorce or after that?

It’s complicated – and we only have articles to go off of and information given by elusive sources. It’s been long speculated that Tom prioritized his career over family. In an older interview with Howard Stern, he revealed, “[Gisele] didn’t feel like I was doing my part for the family.” He shared that while he was focused on football, she was managing the household and taking care of the kids. He acknowledged, “I realized I needed to pay attention to my family,” which shows that he recognized the strain his career put on their relationship.

Tom admitted in that same interview that he had to check himself, saying, “I realized I needed to pay attention to my family.” However, a source close to the couple also mentioned that Tom was “totally devoted” to his children during the offseason, but during the season, he was often busy traveling and training. “No other husband gets six months off a year to be totally devoted to just their family,” the source said, trying to shed light on the balancing act Tom attempted.

We won’t ever get the full story; however, I can confidently say that the split left both heartbroken. In March 2023, Gisele opened up about her own struggles: “It’s tough because you imagine your life was going to be a certain way, and you did everything you could.”

Don't get me wrong—I'm happy for Gisele and this new chapter in her life. Giving birth and being a mother is incredibly rewarding and beautiful. Still, I can’t help but think about my friends struggling in the dating world today. They're on dating apps and running clubs, going from one disappointing date to another, often coming across men who are upfront about "not wanting anything serious." Gisele and Tom’s story served as a symbol of hope for a lot of men and women in a world where so many relationships are strained, but now it’s a reminder that even those who seem to have it all together can end in heartbreak.

As Gisele poignantly put it, “Sometimes you grow together; sometimes you grow apart.” She explained that when they first met at 26 and 29, they wanted a family and shared dreams. But as time went on, they realized they wanted different things. “That doesn’t mean you don’t love the person. It just means that in order for you to be authentic and truly live the life that you want to live, you have to have somebody who can meet you in the middle.”

The model adds, “When you love someone, you don’t put them in a jail and say, ‘You have to live this life.’ You set them free to be who they are, and if you want to fly the same direction, then that’s amazing.”
