A diabetes drug has become a popular hunger suppressant among women.

Ashley Keenan nearly died after taking Ozempic for weight loss. She experienced a severe gastrointestinal reaction to the medication despite only being on it for four months. "I was only on Ozsempic for about four months. When I ended up in the ICU, an intensive care unit, for 10 days, I nearly died," she tells 60 Minutes Australia.

The medical professionals at the ER had to consult every specialist to save her life. "The doctors told me it was what they call a perfect storm," Keenan recalls. "The side effects of the Ozempic gave me pancreatitis. The pancreatitis caused me to vomit uncontrollably. I actually remember one of the ER doctors telling me that he roped in every specialist that he could so that he could try to save my life."

Despite Keenan nearly losing her life, Ozempic had made her lose weight. Once she stopped, she gained weight just as fast as she had lost it. So Keenan returned to the drug once again. "I'm quite ashamed of this. At one point, I actually went back on Ozempic because I hated how much weight I had regained," she said.

The doctors willingly gave Keenan Ozempic. Astounding. Medical professionals are giving drugs away like candy, as per usual. "And my doctors gave it to me. They said, 'Okay, well, we're going to monitor you more closely this time,'" she continues. "And after two months, I had pancreatitis again. It made me realize, okay, this medication is harmful."

Keenan is very fortunate that she was saved. Trish Webster, 56, from Australia, lost her life after taking Ozempic to lose weight before her daughter's wedding. Like Keenan, Webster had a gastrointestinal illness.

While the drug did help her quickly shed pounds, Webster fell ill, and just a few months before her daughter's wedding, her husband found her unconscious. “She had a little bit of brown stuff coming out of her mouth, and I realized she wasn’t breathing and started doing CPR,” her husband Roy informed 60 Minutes Australia. “It was just pouring out, and I turned her onto the side because she couldn’t breathe.”

In a world obsessed with beauty standards, the pressure on women to be thin has reached alarming heights. But rather than eating healthy and working out, women are seeking out Ozempic as an alternative. Yet, as the numbers on the scale drop, so does their health.

“If I knew that could happen, she wouldn’t have been taking it,” Roy said. “I never thought you could die from it.”

“She shouldn’t be gone, you know,” he added. “It’s just not worth it, it’s not worth it at all.”
