Women Are Reporting Waking Up With Bigger Implants Than They Asked For

Are doctors giving larger implants than what their patients originally asked for? According to Candice Barley, women are reporting waking up with bigger implants without their consent.

What happened to consent and bodily autonomy?

Candice Barley, "an actress, documentary photographer, and patient advocate for women with breast implant illness," came on the Skinny Confidential Him & Her Show to discuss the unexplained illnesses associated with breast implants.

She revealed something incredibly unsettling to hosts Lauryn and Michael Bosstick: Doctors are giving oversized implants to their patients – even though they did not ask for them.

"Nine out of ten women tell me that they woke up with implants that were two to three times larger than they asked for," revealed Barley.

"Why? Why is that?" asked Michael.

"So, this is what we are all told across the board: That women are always going to wish that they had gotten bigger implants," Barley explained. "And to save you money and time, these surgeons, who – their whole business is based on making money – say, 'I'm just going to forego you having to worry about wanting bigger implants later, and I'm going to go ahead and give you bigger implants.'"

She continued, "Some have been told they would get 350 ccs, and they wake up with 600."

When the host asked if that was even legal, Barley responded, "I don't know, but I guarantee if you were to take a poll and ask women if they got the size implants they asked for, or if they were bigger than they ever wanted, and they all cover them up, just watch and see how many women say that's exactly what happened to them."

Based on these accounts, there are some surgeons out there who are suddenly giving women larger implants without their consent. They are making life-altering decisions for them without their agency, and it's sickening to think about. I know some people will argue that the women already opted to go under the knife, so it doesn't matter. But it does. It's the principle. Doctors should be listening to their patients and treating their bodies (and their choices) with respect.

Women Report Getting Bigger Implants

"I would say it's close to 90%," Barley added. 90% is incredibly high, and the comments sound like they confirm her reports. A woman named Abigail wrote, "This happened to my mom. She asked for a B cup HE GAVE HER DDD. 20 years later she had them removed. Always hated them."

However, others said that while, yes, it did happen to them, they were much happier with the end result. "I asked for 350-400 and got 450/470. At first I was scared, 3 years later I'm so happy they're bigger and not smaller," said a TikToker named Rose.

Many said they removed their implants years later. "My surgeon said he would decide on the table what looked better," another comment read. "I asked for a full c and woke up with a double d. Took them out 5yrs. So happy."

I always get comments on my content about plastic surgery that go along the lines of, "Who cares if women get plastic surgery if it makes them happy?" I care. Because not every single procedure is going to fix their deep-rooted insecurities, and frankly, that kind of logic only empowers surgeons to profit off women's self-image issues. It's not empowering at all to tell women to spend thousands of dollars on something they don't need, especially when it's to attain a beauty standard perpetuated by pornography and the men who consume it. Especially when breast implants are known to cause illnesses.

I'm not against plastic surgery, but I'm never going to stop criticizing the industry. Not until the focus shifts from profit-driven decisions to a more patient-centric approach that prioritizes the respect and well-being of individual choices and their overall health. But considering how, in 2022, 8.5 billion dollars were generated from surgical cosmetic procedures alone, I don't think that will ever happen.
