Zendaya's Stylist Law Roach Is Retiring And Fans Think It Was Louis Vuitton's Fault—Here's Why
Zendaya's iconic stylist Law Roach is retiring due to "politics" and "lies," but TikTokers think it may have been Louis Vuitton's fault after Roach was seemingly denied a front-row seat at their fashion show.
Zendaya's stylist Law Roach is retiring. Roach, who has an amazing eye for fashion, is best known for his work with Celine Dion, Tom Holland, Ariana Grande, and more. Though the self-proclaimed "image architect" was spotted fixing up Zendaya's rose dress at the 2023 SAG Awards only two weeks ago, Roach has announced his retirement on Instagram. The reason? He says it's because of "politics and "lies."
"My Cup is empty….. thank you to everyone who’ve supported me and my career over the years," the stylist wrote in his caption. "Every person that trusted me with their image, I’m so grateful for you all. If this business was just about the clothes I would do it for the rest of my life but unfortunately it’s not! The politics , the lies and false narratives finally got me! You win … I’m out. ❤️❤️❤️"
Roach has yet to elaborate on his reasons for retiring, but TikTok has already begun speculating that his departure may be due to an incident that took place at a Louis Vuitton runway show he attended with Zendaya. A viral video shows Roach seemingly being denied a front-row seat at the event – despite being one of the most in-demand stylists in Hollywood.
User @imurgency made a TikTok about the ordeal, writing, "the louis vuitton team after realizing they might have just caused one of the most iconic celeb stylist to retire..."
Another influencer, @5arahpop, made a video on the topic. "My brain immediately went to that clip of him arriving to the Louis Vuitton fashion show with Zendaya, and there wasn't a seat for him in the front row," she says. "And he probably felt disrespected."
"I hope it’s not because of this situation 😭" comments @takecarehours.
@thehighfashionfan speculates that tensions between Roach and Louis Vuitton started a year ago when his previous client Anya Taylor-Joy signed a deal with Dior – who, you guessed it, is owned by Louis Vuitton with Moët et Chandon and Hennessy (LVMH). "They cut him [Roach] out of the deal," @thehighfashion fan theorizes. "Her [Zendaya] being an ambassador for the brand now means that they no longer need him. I don't think he's upset just because of a set. Like, this is clearly a power move."
It appears that Zendaya was seated next to a big wig (allegedly Dior CEO Delphine Arnault) while Roach was moved to the back row. She continues, "It's not a coincidence that Zendaya has to be sitting right next to her [Delphine Arnault], and then Law has no seat."
Again, Roach seems he's blame "politics" and "lies" for his retirement, so may have been a lot of behind-the-scenes "politics" and "false narratives" going on that we're unaware of. But he undoubtedly deserved a front-row seat at that show. Zendaya is known for being a fashion icon, and that's largely thanks to Law Roach, who has styled the actress for over a decade. He doesn't simply choose outfits to mix and match for his stars. According to Vogue, Roach "creates an entire vision, story, and mood board" for all of them. Needless to say, the fashion industry has just lost one of its most legendary stylists.
“I live in this fantasy world where women are my superheroes,” Roach told Vogue. “I think that what maybe separates me from other [stylists] is that I really work hard to find who the person is. I don't want to ever change that; I just want to help elevate it; for them to be the best version of themselves.” This is why Roach believes he's sought after by some of the biggest celebrities. “It’s not the way that I make my clients look – it’s how I make them feel.”
